Zehetleitner finished in a disappointing 5th place but the $187,439 prize was a nice band-aid on the wound.

Obtaining The Chip Lead

Most online tournaments are finished on the day they start but the Venom is a whole different animal. The 4-day tournament has multiple Day 1 flights which drew a total of 2,744 entries. After two days of play only 51 remained and every player was guaranteed of at least $7,200 and the bounties they collected.

Zehetleitner ended the day short, but everything was possible with a deep structure. The Grindhouse 2 alumnus proved this by storming up the ranks on Day 3 of the tournament. From the bottom to the top he rose and when the dust settled and only eight players were remaining in the tournament it was Zehetleitner with the chip lead in his hands.

Final Table Action

The final table started with a quick elimination of short stack ‘Justicepeanut’. He ran into the pocket tens of ‘Amygdaluss’ with his ace-king suited but none of the five community cards were able to save him from his end. As the first player eliminated he took home $58,300 + $17,000 ($75,300) in bounties.

Only ten minutes later a huge pot took place between ‘Amygdaluss’, who had just eliminated the first player of the final table, and ‘BiTaMiHka’. On a completed board of Q-6-4-3-K with two missed flush draws it was soon-to-be chip leader ‘Amygdaluss’ with a set of queens which was far superior to the ace-king suited of ‘BiTaMiHka’. A check-call for their tournament life abruptly ended ‘BiTMiHka’ their run in the tournament as they collected $85,750 + $14,750 ($100,500)  for the first six-figure payday of the Venom Final Table.

The momentum was clearly on the side of ‘Amygdaluss’ as they collected another scalp worth $9,500. They raised from the button to 2bb with ace-ten suited and ‘birdgang8’ jammed their last 26bb to the middle with king-jack offsuit. Despite having two live cards, the runout wasn’t favorable for the at-risk player and ‘birdgang8’ collected $119,350 + $17,700 ($137,050).

Unfortunately for Zehetleitner, it was the start of the end. He got involved in a pot with ‘JohnnyUtah’ where Zehetleitner was holding jack-nine suited. After raising a flop bet and turning his flush draw, Zehetleitner put his opponent at risk but the top pair was too good for ‘JohnnyUtah’ to fold and the river didn’t bring any help.

Zehetleitner had 26 big blinds left and was now part of the short stacks. He soon after ran into pocket queens with his pocket nines and that was all she wrote for the young Austrian. His deep run pocketed him $152,600 + $34,800 ($187,400) after finishing in 5th place.

‘Amygdallus’ continued their dominance on the final table and what is a deep run without a little bit of luck. In a huge preflop confrontation between him and ‘JohnnyUtah’ they got all the chips in the middle with ace-king suited versus a pair of kings. ‘Amygdallus’ spiked the ace on the flop and sent ‘JohnnyUtah’ to the rail with $217,800 + $50,000 ($267,800) as a consolation prize.

Despite being well on his way to eliminate every single player on the final table it was ‘dartazz’ to collect one as well. He eliminated ‘procurator’ in a coin flip with the bronze medalist walking away with $307,000 + $13,100 ($320,100).

Ultimately, ‘Amygdaluss’ converted their commanding chiplead into winning the tournament as they delivered the final blow by eliminating ‘dartazz’. The 2nd-place finisher took home an impressive $483,600 + $73,600 ($557,200) but it was ‘Amygdaluss’ claiming the lion’s share of the prize pool as their account balance increased with a huge $483,600 + $342,900 ($826,500).
