Matthias Eibinger is a known commodity within the Poker Community.
He is first on Austria's all-time money list with lifetime earnings of more than $10 million, including wins in €50,000 Super High Roller events at EPT Monte Carlo and EPT Prague and a WPT online High Roller Title.
Matthias was mixing it up this past week in some newer territory, the high stakes cash game streets! Jumping in at 500/1000 NLH, in Matthias' own words, the "highest stakes that I have played so far".
We're going to take a look at some of the biggest pots, how things went, and how Matthias' plays faired with Pokercode Cash Coach Steffen Sontheimer giving his thoughts on the hands.
500/1000 NLH - 6 Max GG Network
UTG Opens 2x to $2,000
Matthias Calls on the Button with K♦️J♦️
Small Blind Folds
Big Blind Calls
Flop 4♦️A♦️8♠️
Checks around
Turn T❤️
BB leads out $3,850 (half pot), UTG Calls, Matthias Calls.
River Q♣️
BB Checks, UTG now overbets the pot to $34,000.
Matthias has the nuts here and raises to $91,000, UTG calls and tables J♠️9♠️ for the second nuts on the river. Massive cooler for UTG here, but Matthias Scoops a big one!
Steffen's thoughts on this spot were something along the lines of Matthias can almost say, "Thanks for the Money". A combination of playing a relatively straightforward hand correctly and having a river that enables him to get a considerable raise called.
This hand is a pretty big cooler for UTG, as we said before!
With this hand, we got Pokercode Cash Game Pro and Coach Steffen Sontheimer to give his thoughts on the action.
500/1000 NLH - 6 Max GG Network
UTG Opens 4x to $4,000,
Steffen remarks that this large opening size from UTG may be something for us to read into here.
Small blind calls as does Matthias out of the Big Blind with 9♣️8♣️
Flop A♣️8♦️7♦️
The small blind and Matthias both check
UTG c-bets half pot, $6,600, Small blind folds but Matthias Calls.
Steffen - "No option but calling here, raising is a theoretical option but probably not our plan vs a recreational player showing strength."
Turn T♣️
Matthias checks and UTG bets pot $26,400, Matthias raises to $124,310.76 and is all-in. UTG player makes the call.
Steffen - "We have all the equity in the world, so the question is just whether we perform better by jamming or by calling. We should consider mainly two things when contemplating raising:
Actually, against those types of draws, any outcome is excellent for us, so I'd focus on our chance of folding out made hands."
Matthias asks to run it three times to lower the variance of the spot. UTG declines, and when the cards are on their backs, UTG A❤️Q♦️ is around 55% to win the hand vs Matthias 9♣️8♣️.
The percentages don't matter, though, as the 4♣️ rolls off on the river handing Matthias the $275,021.53 pot.
