Big blind ante is an ante bet posted by the big blind. This is a fresh concept that was introduced to replace the traditional ante bet, where every player at the table has to post the ante before cards are dealt.
For example, if a tournament is at the 250/500 level with the 500 big blind ante, the player in the big blind will post 1,000 in total. The first 500 is the ante bet that goes straight into the pot, while the other 500 is their big blind.
The main idea behind the concept is to speed up the game and avoid confusion that can happen when every individual player has to post an ante at the start of every hand.
Although there are still some games that use the traditional ante structure, the big blind ante has become more commonplace, and it is pretty much a standard in today’s poker industry, both live and online.
