A bomb pot is a relatively new addition to poker cash games that’s become really popular lately. In a bomb pot, all players post a predetermined amount before the hole cards are dealt and proceed straight to the flop, skipping the preflop betting round.
For example, in a 9-handed game, everyone will post $100, creating a pot of $900. Then, the dealer will deal the cards, as is usual. Players can look at their cards, but there is no betting at this point. The dealer will then deal the flop, and the action starts from there.
The betting order in a bomb pot is the same as in any other hand. Since the action starts on the flop, the first player to act is the one seated in the small blind position.
In a bomb pot, everybody posts the same amount of money before the flop, and there is no small or big blind. However, once the betting starts, the minimum wager amount will be one big blind.
So, in our example, if the game is $50/$100, there is $900 in the pot, and the minimum amount to bet is $100. Of course, players can also check as long as there is no action in front of them.
