The term community cards is used to describe cards in the middle that all players can use to make their hands in games like Texas Hold’em and Omaha.
For example, a flop of 5-7-3 in Texas Hold’em constitutes community cards. All players in the pot can use any of these cards and combine them with their hole cards to make the best possible combination. Community cards include all five cards that come on the flop, turn, and river.
The rules for community cards vary between different poker variations. In Hold’em, players can use community cards without any restrictions, combining them with just one of their hole cards or using just community cards (playing the board).
In Omaha, on the other hand, players can only use community cards in combination with exactly two cards from their hand. So, if someone has only an Ah and four of the community cards are hearts, they would have an ace-high flush in Hold’em, but not in Omaha.
