Discard

The term discards describe all cards that were thrown away (discarded) by the players during a round.

In games like Hold’em and Omaha, the discard pile consists of the hands that players gave up on before the flop or during one of the later betting rounds.

In draw games, such as Five Card Draw, the discard pile also contains cards that players exchanged during one of the betting rounds.

The term can also be used as a verb. So, during a round of a draw game, a player may announce that they’ll discard three cards. This means that they’ll remove three cards from their hand and exchange them for three new cards from the deck.
