The full ring is a term used to describe a poker table with a maximum number of ten players. It is worth mentioning that modern games have nine-handed and even eight-handed tables considered full ring.
The most popular variation is the 9-handed game which has nine seats at the table, and no matter how many players are playing, it would be considered a full ring table.
Each position has a name based on the relation of the button, starting with the player on the immediate left:
• Small Blind
• Big Blind
• Under the Gun
• Under the Gun + 1
• Under the Gun + 2
• Lowjack
• Hijack
• Cutoff
• Button
Since more players are on the full ring table, these games are usually a bit more passive than those with fewer players. First of all, more players mean there is a higher chance of someone waking up with a strong hand, and you need more opponents to fold to steal the blinds. On top of that, players have more time between blinds and can play tighter since they will not get blinded out that fast.
Most tournaments are played in the full ring format, while cash games usually adopt a 6-max.
