In Position

In position describes the player’ssituation in a hand when he is the last to act in the particular betting round.

Being in a position is one of the biggestadvantages you can have in a hand since you get to see what other players dobefore making your decision. This additional information lets you adjust yourstrategy and make better decisions than being out of position and acting first.Realizing your equity in position is also much easier, so your holdings aregenerally more valuable.

The button is the only seat at the tablethat is guaranteed to be in a position in all betting rounds postflop. Forexample, if everyone folds to you on the button and you open the pot by raisingand big blind calls, you will have a position on that player since we will needto act first on all further streets. The same goes if someone has alreadyopened the pot and you decide to call on the button.

For all other seats, it depends on who isstill active in the pot. If you raise from the hijack and everyone folds apartfrom the big blind, you are still going to be in position. That being said, theearlier seat you have at the table and the more players are still left to actafter you, the higher the chance that someone will have a playable hand and youwon’t be in position.

Therefore, raising more hands from latepositions like button and cutoff is more profitable than doing that on earlierseats. The fact is that you should be looking to play more hands in positionthan being out of position, no matter what.
