Pot Limit

The term pot limit describes a betting structure where the size of the pot restricts the maximum bet a player can make at any given point.

Just like in no-limit games, there are no restrictions in terms of the number of bets per street, and players can choose any bet size they want as long as it doesn’t exceed the size of the pot.

Calculating the maximum bet size in pot-limit games can be a bit tricky when there is action in front of you. The formula to quickly determine what’s the most you can bet is two times the active bet plus whatever was in the pot before the last bet.

For example, if there is $100 in the pot and the player in front of you bets $50, the maximum raise you can make is $250. You simply add the size of the pot ($150) with the last bet ($50) and the amount you would need to call ($50), which equals $250.
