Raising is an aggressive action in a poker hand where the player increases the size of the bet by putting more money into the pot.
For example, if you are sitting under the gun in a $1/2$ game and decide to increase the bet to $6, you just raised.Raising can occur both preflop and postflop, so if someone c-bets on the flop after being an aggressor in the previous round and you decide to come over the top and bet even more, that’s also considered a raise.
You can also find dedicated names for specific raises. If you re-raise someone’s bet, that is considered a 3-bet, or if you put all your chips in the middle to increase the stakes after someone's bet, that is known as all-in. There are more examples of such bets, but all of these terms also mean a raise, so whenever you increase the active bet in the pot, you are essentially raising.
It is considered a good strategy to play aggressively and usually raise when you enter the pot instead of just calling, so make sure to implement this move in your games.
