A state of mental and emotional frustration and confusion that prevents players from making rational decisions at a poker table is known as tilt.
There are many inside and outside causes that can lead to tilt, and the tilt doesn’t affect all players in the same way.
Some will become overly aggressive and try to quickly recoup their losses after a bad beat. In some instances, a player can become too tight after a series of bad beats, believing (irrationally) that it’s just not their lucky day and they simply can’t win a hand.
Tilt can be caused by all sorts of different factors, like bad beats, other players’ comments, and even reasons completely unrelated to poker (for example, getting some bad news while playing).
Whatever the cause, every good player needs to be able to recognize when they’re on tilt and move past their frustration as quickly as possible to avoid making bad decisions that will cost them money.
