Middle Position

The term middle position in poker describes players seated between early position and late position players. The position at the table is determined by the placement of the dealer button.

In a 9-handed game, three spots are considered middle positions, seated to the right of the hijack position. These are usually marked as MP1, MP2, and MP3. In a 6-handed game, the term middle position, when used, usually applies to the hijack player, who is the second player to act after Under the Gun.

In terms of strategy, the middle position allows players to play wider ranges than those in early positions, but they still have to play much tighter than those in late positions, namely cutoff and button.
